Currently, there are two main methods of steel billet production: production through a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) for iron ore and production through an electric arc furnace (EAF) for scrap steel and steel containing additives.
The steel billet production process plays an important role in supplying and producing diverse steel products to serve many industries around the world. Below are the two main steps of the steel billet production process:
- Ore processing: The steel billet production process begins with the exploitation of ore from mines or scrap steel. Next, they transfer the raw material to the iron and steel production complex, where they heat it to the required temperature to produce molten steel.
- Creating a molten steel stream: Next, the molten steel will be led to the electric arc furnace. Here, impurities will be removed, and a product called steel billet will be formed. The production of the corresponding types of steel billets will depend on usage needs.

Classification of steel billet
There are currently three main types of steel billets: square steel billet, flat steel billet, and bloom steel billet.
- Square steel billet: Square steel billets are mainly used to produce rolled steel and rebar steel bars. Common sizes of square steel billets are 100x100, 125x125, and 150x150. Length can be from 6m to 12m, depending on factory standards.
- Flat steel billet: Flat steel billets are larger in size than square steel billets and have a rectangular cross-section. We use this type of steel billet to produce hot-rolled steel sheets or cold-rolled steel coils….
- Bloom steel billet: This type of steel billet is quite similar to square steel billet, but the size is much larger. Bloom steel billet has the ability to replace billets and flat steel billets in the production of the above types of construction steel.

- Producing construction steel: This is one of the main applications of steel billet. Typically, the production of construction steel involves the use of steel billets, specifically square steel billets.
- Manufacturing rolled steel: In addition to being produced from main raw materials, rolled steel is also produced from flat steel billets. Additionally, we use flat steel billets to produce hot-rolled coils, cold-rolled coils, and shaped steel.
