September 4, 2019, the U.S Department of Commerce (D.O.C) announce the affirmative preliminary determination in the antidumping investigation of imports of certain fabricated structural steel from China and Mexico. 

This Investigation initiated on February 25, 2019, when D.O.C noticed the dumping of imported steel from China, Mexico and Canada.  And the petitioner is the American Institute of Steel Construction Full Member Subgroup (Chicago, IL).

After 6 months of investigation, on September 4, 2019, D.O.C had preliminary results of this survey.

Accordingly, D.O.C decided not to apply temporary measures to Canada. In the Canada investigation, D.O.C assigned preliminary dumping rates of 0.00 % and 0.69 % to mandatory respondents Canatal Industries, Inc. and Les Constructions BeauceAtlas Inc., respectively.

Mexico and China are 2 of the 3 largest suppliers of steel products to the United States. The tax has partly stopped the flow of goods into the US, in order to implement the policy of using 95% of domestic steel for government construction projects set by President Trump.

China and Mexico are also taxed as an opportunity for other markets to penetrate the US market for this item, including Vietnam. The US is a potential market, factories producing this item in Vietnam should look for opportunities in this case.
