Vietnam is one of main players in this steel playground ranked 20th in top largest steel suppliers in the world. According to the World Steel Association, Vietnam’s raw steel material production reached a record high of 14.1 million tons in 2018, an increase of 23% over the previous year. And the total target production for 2019 will be at least 10% higher than 2018.

While the average steel consumption per capita in Vietnam is only 241kg ranking fourth among ASEAN countries. Developed countries like Singapore are at 500 kg per capita. Therefore, Vietnam steel has a lot of potential for development.

Specifically, finished steel products output in 2018 reached 25.6 million tons, up 15.8% compared to 2017, steel consumption rose to 22.3 million tons, finished steel products export reached nearly 8 million tons and more than 5.7 billion USD.

Based on statistic on HS code 72 only, in 2018, Vietnamese steel products have reached more than 100 countries in the world with main markets are USA and ASEAN countries (Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines…).
