Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ministry of Industry and Trade) stated that Ministry of Industry and Trade has just issued Decision No. 2703 / QD-BCT on conducting investigation of anti-dumping measures on some cold-rolled carbon steel products. (cold pressed) in rolls or sheets made in China on September 3.

The case was initiated based on a Request file submitted by a local manufacturing industry representative on May 3, 2019.

At the request are 3 companies representing Vietnam’s cold rolled steel manufacturing industry including: Posco Co., Ltd – Vietnam, China Steel Sumikin Vietnam Joint Stock Company and Phu My Steel Sheet One Member Co., Ltd. – VNSTEEL.

The petitioner has accused non-alloy steel products or flat rolled steel in rolls or sheets, of a width of less than 1,600 mm, a thickness of 0,108 mm – 2,55 mm, whether tempered or not. annealed, covered or coated with inorganic or uncoated or coated and not further worked than cold rolled imported from China.

These products are believed to have been dumping into the Vietnamese market, causing significant damage to Vietnam’s cold rolled steel industry.

Vietnam has the ability to self-control HRC and CRC in the near future, which is an important basis for focusing on quality and not being dependent on imported sources. Vietnam is expected to become a strong exporter not only for coated steel and also HRC, CRC in the next 3 years.

Therefore, Vietnam is confident of becoming a quality and reputable source of steel for the markets of Europe, Mexico, Canada and America, aiming to reduce import tax to 0% with countries through bilateral and regional FTAs.
